Constitution
Article I Name
The name of this organization shall be "NIE-IEEE Student
Branch" abbreviated as NISB.
Article II Object
The purpose shall be the dissemination of knowledge of the
theory and practice of all aspects of Electrical, Electronics,
Computer Sciences & allied branches, as well as the
furtherance of the professional development of the Students.
Article III Membership
Section 1 - General Qualification. Membership shall be
limited to undergraduate and graduate students of The National
Institute Of Engineering, Mysore.
Section 2 - The membership shall consist of student
members of the IEEE.
Article IV Admission Fees and Dues
Section 1 - The Executive Committee of the Branch shall
have the power to levy special assessments upon endorsement by
a two-thirds vote of the membership of the Branch.
Section 2 - Nonpayment of transnational dues will
automatically result in suspension of membership in IEEE and
in the local Branch. Nonpayment of local dues may result in
suspension of membership in the local Branch, but will not
result in suspension of membership in IEEE.
Section 3 - Every active member of this Branch shall
pay as a Membership Dues and Semester Dues such sums as may be
prescribed in the bylaws of this branch.
Article V Bylaws
Section 1 - The branch shall adopt bylaws not
inconsistent with the constitution and bylaws of IEEE (and the
rules of procedures for an area administration where
established) and with this constitution, embodying additional
provisions for the government of this branch.
Section 2 - Bylaws may be amended from time to time as
therein provided.
Article VI Attendance
Section 1 - Every Executive Committee member of this
branch should attend its regular meetings. An Executive
Committee member shall be counted as attending an Executive
Committee meeting of this branch if such member is present for
80% of the time devoted for the Executive Committee meetings.
Section 2 - Any Executive Committee member of this
branch failing to attend three consecutive meetings shall
invite a notice, failing which the Executive Committee member
shall be suspended from the Executive Committee at the
discretion the branch Chairperson.
Article VII Officers & Executive Committee
Section 1 - The governing body of this Branch shall be
an Executive Committee to be constituted as the bylaws of the
branch may provide.
Section 2 - The officers of the Branch shall be a
Chairperson, one or more Vice-Chairpersons, a Secretary and a
Treasurer.
Section 3 - To be eligible for office, a candidate must
be enrolled as a Student member of the IEEE and a member in
good standing in the local Branch.
Section 4 - The term of office shall be for one year.
Section 5 - Election of officers for the following year
shall be held not later than the last meeting of each year.
Section 6 - The Officers shall nominate six members
into the Executive Committee with a designation of Director -
Program, Director - Membership, Director - Publicity,
Webmaster and two members (who may be given designations if
deemed necessary by the Officers).
Section 7 - The management of the affairs of the Branch
shall be in the hands of the Executive Committee. The
Chairperson of the Branch shall be Chairperson of the
Executive Committee.
Section 8 - The Executive Committee shall be the
governing body of the Branch and shall transact all business
it deems advisable, including the filling of vacancies in
offices, authorization of expenditures, etc.
Article VIII Amendments
Section 1 - The Branch is empowered to adopt Bylaws,
which are consistent with this Constitution.
Section 2 - The Constitution may be amended by
two-thirds of the members of the Branch present and voting,
provided the amendment shall have been proposed at least one
duly publicized meeting previous to the time of voting. Such
amendments become effective only upon the approval of the
Executive Committee of the IEEE.

Section 1 - The Branch shall hold at least 3 meetings
as designated by the Executive Committee
Section 2 - The Branch shall hold at least one Annual
Meeting which will comprise of the General Body.
NIE - IEEE Student Branch Bylaws
Article I Election of Office Bearers.
The election of the office bearers will be based on the
nomination of the candidates based on their involvement in
IEEE activities and their technical motivation. The
nominations will be carried out by the existing (current)
Office Bearers in consultation with the Brach Counselor. The
nomination will be announced during the Annual General Body
meeting.

Article III Meetings.
AGM will be held one month before the official hand-over of
charge to the new executive committee. This would normally
fall during the month of June/July.
At least one General Body meeting should be held to update the
General Body on the current financial status and activities of
the branch.
Proper records on the attendance will be maintained during
general body meetings and the minutes taken down by the
secretary will be submitted to the general body via email.
Amendments to the constitution shall be made during the Annual
General Body meeting ONLY.
Article IV Dues.
Semester dues of Rs. 25 (till date) will be collected from
each IEEE member during the first month of each semester. Any
IEEE member failing to remit the above said amount will cease
to be member of the NIE-IEEE Student Branch.
Additional amount of up to 10% of IEEE HQ dues may be
collected as postal and DD charges from members.
Changes to the semester dues may be made only in consultation
with the general body.
Article V Method of Voting.
The method of voting for amendments to the Constitution &
Bylaws would be done via Voice Vote to avoid wasting time.
Voting thro ballot shall be carried out only when there is a
disagreement during the voice vote.
Article VII Committees.
The Executive Committee has the right to install any new
Ad-Hoc committee and Sub-committees, which shall be dissolved
after the objectives of the Committees & Sub-committees, are
met.

Article XI Order of Business
Attendance record should be maintained during every
Executive Committee Meeting and General Body Meetings.
The minutes of the Executive Committee Meetings & General Body
Meetings shall be taken down by the Secretary of the Branch
and maintained as permanent branch record. The gist of the
same shall be read out to the General Body during the AGM.
The Branch Counselor & Faculty Advisors are expected to attend
all the General Body Meetings organized by the Executive
Committee.
The General Body should be intimated at least one week before
a General Body Meeting or AGM.
Article XII Amendments
The Membership Amount shall be decided by the executive
committee on the commencement of their office in accordance
with the prevailing situations.
Due to the varying exchange rates, the difference amount
between the Membership amount decided and the IEEE membership
shall be collected as the NISB membership fees.
The difference shall not exceed an amount of 100 Indian
rupees.
