Robotics Technical Group

The Robotics Group was started with the vision of keeping the members of NISB abreast with the latest knowledge in the field of Robotics.

Presently, the Robotics Group is working on building a Rover intended for Terrain Mapping. The Software Platform on which the Rover is being constructed is flexible and can incorporate many other Modules for future expansion.

The Rover uses a Linux Kernel for scheduling and interfacing. Video Data from a Web Cam are being used as the input to control the Rover. Various Image Processing Algorithms and Techniques are being employed for the purpose of Obstacle Detection & Terrain Mapping. DTMF is being used to transmit data to a Stationary Storage Unit which also will act as a control unit in case of failure of any of the systems on the Rover.

Technical Details about this project will be put up in this section shortly.

The division of work of the different modules are as follows:

1. Serial port(RS232)communication for all purposes and use of parallel port for peripheral interface.

2. Motherboard will be mounted on the rover including the processor, RPS, 1.2 GB hard disc

3. Linux kernel would be used onboard.

4. DTMF and wireless technology to be used to contact the remote terminal.

5.Webcam and micro radar technology to be used for terrain mapping.

6. Drive system

7. Mechanics

The Robotics Group of NISB intends to nurture and motivate interested students in Robotics & Automation.
